Commonwealth Games 2010 in Delhi
Commonwealth Games 2010 kicks off buzz in the entire world, as the national capital city of India, Delhi is going to host this great spot event. Delhi is gearing up to host this great mega event; all the government departments are busy in beautification of Delhi to make it a successful one. The mega event will be held from October- 3 to October 14, 2010.
The preparations of the event are seen in the modern transit systems, global standard accommodation and state-of-the-art tourist facilities. A total of 72 nations will take part in this game extravaganza. Hosting the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982 successfully, India is the 3rd developing country to host this even after the two developing countries--Jamaica and Malaysia, held in 1966 and 1998, respectively.
The relay of the commonwealth, Delhi 2010 Queen’s Baton Relay will start from Buckingham Palace, London, in the first week of November 2009, and traversing a total of 190,000 kilometers in 336 days, it will end at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the opening venue of the XIX Commonwealth Games on 3 October 2010.
Disciplines of the Games
The Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010 consists of competition of 17 sports disciplines: Aquatics (Swimming, Synchronized Swimming and Diving), Archery, Athletics (Track and Field, Road Walk and Marathon), Badminton, Boxing, Cycling (Track, Road Mass Start and Road Time Trials), Gymnastics (Artistic and Rhythmic), Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Rugby 7s, Shooting (Pistol, Small Bore, Full Bore and Clay Target), Squash, Table Tennis, Tennis, Weightlifting and Wrestling. The competition schedule of the Games has been approved by the CGF General Assembly meeting in Colombo, 5-9 November.
